So it is almost the end of January and my luck in employment has been pretty sour. I was hoping to hear back from a couple companies I applied for but I keep hearing from companies I never heard of. I have been applying for various Marketing jobs at General Mills, Verizon Wireless, INNOVA Marketing, etc. in Minneapolis.
In between applying for jobs I have been volunteering my time for various tasks. My best friend Debbie and her sister Genevieve has been going up to the Garment District once a week to buy articles to make costumes for the Dance Dynamics competition team. I have been having a blast going on the shopping trips too. I recommend everyone to check out the Fashion District in Los Angeles. They have beautiful articles of clothing at a better price than in a retail store. We were able to find all kinds of Bridesmaid gowns cheap!
Debbie also got us tickets to go on the Dr. Phil show next week so we are extra excited!
In addition to shopping ,I have been volunteering for the Miss Valley Center Pageant Association. Most recently I have been responsible for recruitment. This year we were able to get eight Jr. Miss and four Miss Valley Center contestants. We are so excited! Practices have started twice a week so I have been lending a helping hand in addition to being responsible for getting their outfits for the sports wear. The themes this year is Valley Center Runway. We are hoping the event will look like a fashion show.
I have also volunteered at the High School to put together a presentation about life after VCHS and interviewing. I thought it was a great event. They invite graduates to talk about their experiences, have a representative from Kaplan talk about the different types of secondary school, FIDM talk about dressing the part, and a lady talk about credit and finances. I must admit they have this program now because I wish they had it when I was in school.
Last, my friend Anamarie is having a baby so I am being a good friend. We have been trying to scrapbook once a week to make Temperance Ann’s(that’s her name) an album. I figure Anamarie will be so busy once she is here so we should create it before she arrives. Recently, the girls (Aubree, Amanda, and I) went to help her register. I can’t believe how much stuff there is for kids these days. I am also blown away by how expensive everything can be.
In conclusion, my birthday is coming up next week and I will be hitting the 2-4. I am one year away from being ¼ of a century. Right now everything is very ambiguous but I am looking for clarity to form in the upcoming months.

Goodbye 2008 and hello 2009!

Well, well, well sorry for the delay in writing but as always my life has been very eventful. With the launch of the New BlackBerry Storm in late November my schedule was intense including a 12 hour work day starting at 4:30am the day after Thanksgiving in Los Angeles. If you haven’t played with Storm yet, you should. I would like to meet the person who uses every application and feature on that phone on a daily basis. The phone is pretty incredible in my non-bias opinion. Elliot flew out in early December to replace Linden for a weekend of Storm promotions while she went to Arizona.
In early December, I finished my last couple days on the SoCal Tour with Verizon Wireless. My last event with Linden ended in San Diego at the CIF High School Football Championship. It was bittersweet leaving my other half Linden. We spent so many hours together to suddenly be taken apart. As for going on tour again, I am looking forward to future opportunities I get to be on the road with Marketing Werks, but at the same time I am looking at other opportunities as well like getting my MBA.
December 17th, four days after my tour, I took off for Bogotá, Colombia for 17 days. Yes I know, I can’t help but be like a butterfly and leave. Going to Colombia was a real treat for me since it was the first time my parents had been in Colombia for Christmas since before they were married (28 years ago) and Edith my dad’s mom first time back in 20 years. In addition, my grandma Livia (mom’s mom) had a mastectomy and was in recovery.
We celebrated the trip with a bang with family gatherings every night for the nine nights of the Novena. I received the best Christmas gift ever when Elliot flew from Minnesota to be with my family and I. He also surprised me with his creativity by creating a personalized scrapbook for me. The next couple days were a blur as we raced all over Bogotá and the Boyaca region to show Elliot the truth about Colombia. Colombia is green, full of happy people, and with a rich culture.
I visited a new place in Colombia called Guatavita. Guatavita is where the legend of El Dorado first began. It is believed that the indigenous people would go out in the middle of the lake and dump precious jewels and gold as an offering to the Gods. Most of the recovered heirlooms have been recovered and are featured in the new Museum of Gold which re-opened last month. In addition to the Museum of Gold and Guatavita, we went to my favorite place to relax in Colombia, Paipa.
Here we relaxed in a thermal treatment which included a thermal bath, jacuzzi, bubble beds, sauna, volcanic mud application, shower, and algae massage. We received all this for less than $50.00 and it was soooo relaxing!
January 1st 2009, we rang in the New Years with family by wearing yellow underwear, eating 12 grapes as fast as possible, popping a balloon, drinking champagne, wishing happy new years, and running around the neighborhood with a suitcase so we will travel in 2009.
We did all of these things at once at struck of midnight for good luck. Crazy huh? Elliot was so overwhelmed he thought we were crazy. After earning good luck Elliot and I took off with my cousins to a club at 2:00a.m. where we danced until the sun came up on January 1st, literally!
It was bittersweet as always leaving my family in Colombia. It took us 39 hours to travel back to San Diego from Colombia. We started off flying from Bogota to Medellin from Copa to American Airlines which resulted in us having to get off the plane, pick up suitcases, and re-check while going through immigration within 45 minutes. Once we finally passed the four baggage inspections and were patted down twice for drugs we finally boarded the plane. As we were just taking off we heard two loud explosions in the air. For the next 30 minutes we circled and the American Airlines’ Captain Crooks (really that was his name) said, “we lost our main engine”. After dodging a mountain we finally landed back at the Medellin airport. What we didn’t know at the time was the passengers on the left watched the left engine catch on fire(REALLY!). When we finally landed the captain had to do a force landing in which resulted in the breaks melting because he stopped so hard.
Once we were on the ground they turned off the plane and had the fire department on the runway putting out the fire from the breaks. To summarize this event no one expected us to make it. They had helicopters in the air in case we crashed, firefighters on the runway, and not to mention the bottom floor of the airport had a room full of hospital gurneys. After we finally got off the plane we took off for Miami 12 hours later. Once in Miami it took us 3 hours to get our new tickets, which resulted being standby tickets on the “businesses day of the year” at Miami's airport. It took us five stand by flights before we actually headed to our connection in Dallas before arriving in San Diego. It was horrible and the most frustrating American Airlines flight EVER!
Since Colombia, I have been applying for jobs in the Minneapolis St. Paul area. While Elliot was in Colombia he asked my parents if we could move in together so we wouldn’t have to do the long distance relationship anymore. I am hoping to go on another tour before I move in March/May while also applying for jobs in the area. So that is my update. As for what will be happening this year I only know one thing…I am leaving the West Coast to live in the Mid West and I am going to work really hard to go to Asia this year, preferably Thailand.
